The Order is a perfect movie for anyone who hasn’t already seen BlacKKKlansmen. Or, if you sat through that movie and though, I wish there were a period movie about cops infiltrating the Klan in Colorado but that all the Black actors were white, then this would be pretty close to what you wanted. Jude Law has been juggling the roll out of Skeleton Crew at the same time as The Order, which is about as far apart in terms of tonal artwork as you can get: space heists and RaCiSm. Nicholas Hoult is contractually obligated to put out six movies a year at this point, and I think this movie is coming out while a Clint Eastwood directed (still alive???) film in which he is the star of a courtroom drama that was at least mildly well received at Slate. Jurnee Smollett is trying to find work after losing the Lovecraft Country gig. This movie takes itself really seriously while also making the choice to allow some crazy ass scenes like the lengthy scene where Jude Law gets a few minutes of screentime to cool it with his accent and hunt an elk only to be hunted by a different guy who’s standing about a stone’s throw away from him. Genuinely a real bummer of a date movie, if you ask me. Two babadooks.
