I saw this movie with two Friends, one of which I haven’t seen in about ten years and the other which I’d only met three or four times before, which was a weird and not altogether unpleasant experience. I asked my older friend if he would come see it while visiting me for the week by feeling how his tolerance for a bad movie and he said he had a lot of tolerance for it, which is how I was reminded that he loves comedies despite teaching a class on the Holocaust in film (my contribution: X-Men Days of Futures Past is the best holocaust movie). I’m writing this review about two weeks after having seen the film and I have to say that most of it feels like a fever dream for a variety of reasons, but what I do remember is that the soundtrack for the movie absolutely slaps, there are a couple of sequences of absurdist humor which elicited extended laughter from the entire row, and the movie relies on the fact that you have nothing better to do for about ninety minutes.
Fight or Flight is a Leitch clone, something to fill the void in between Bullet Train and whatever the next stuntman-centric movie is, and it does it really well. There are a lot of different, new, fun ways for you to kill or permanently maim baddies on a plane that you haven’t seen before, but also there’s just a lot of stupid twists and unreliable protagonist bits that totally work for the low IQ of this movie. The combat style is drunken master stochastic lucky penny and if you’re into sloppy violence, you’re gonna love watching this on a plane, which is almost certainly what the intention of the eight tiny production houses who funded this movie had in mind.
