Eternity (Nov 11)

It takes a lot for a movie that’s cribbing most of its visual and conceptual humor from an Albert Brooks movie in the 80s to fall so flat on its own face, and the title seems designed to bait critics into commenting on how unpleasantly long the plot meanders, so I’ll resist, only to say that this movie feels like a film about monogamy written by people who don’t believe in monogamy, with a central, arbitrary problem easily solved, but made high stakes through a set of unbreakable rules that then get broken not once but three times, as Elizabeth Olsen cycles through all possible decisions before defaulting to the most disappointing one.

The lone enjoyment I received while watching this movie was a cameo from one of the brilliant performers from The Sunday Service, an improv group in Vancouver that’s been running for years, and presumably was available to do some work on location.

Other than that, you really ought to see Defending Your Life and then kind of count yourself lucky you avoided this one.
